BLOG061305

June 13, 2005 (Monday)

Sometimes I'll use my blog to bitch about things that I won't on LJ because they're a bit more personal. Or I'll
post something erotic. Stuff like that. Well, here, I'm bitching. So…move along if you don't want to hear it. :)

This weekend, my site went down. I had no idea, but a few folks who were interested in my site, who read my
LJ, sent me a heads up to let me know.

I checked it out. Hmmm. Off line. 404 error. I checked Tanamin's "Unicornography" on line comic. Off line.
Then Ed's site and comic. Off line. We're all hosted by Purrsia, and more specifically, Tugrik.

Just in case he wasn't aware of the problem, I dropped him an email. He got back to me almost immediately -
this was at 11 pm - to let me know the TI whatever was down. That it was SBC's problem and they were on it
as well. He told me he'd keep me updated.

That's service. *grin* Especially considering the time of night that I contacted him and that he does this for
folks and does
not charge. Anything. It is a pretty penny out of his pocket every month. Something like $1000.
I was not aware of this until recently. And because of this, I'm going to start contributing something, even if it's
only a little, every month, starting next month. July.

That, however, is not the point of this posting.

The point is, I contacted Tugrik in an amiable way. Others did so as well. Many of them folks Tug hadn't heard
from in some time. But you know how it is, when something goes wrong, that's when folks notice.

No problem. Human nature.

The problem is that there were several folks who were NOT amiable about it. They were rude and accusatory.
One went so far as to post on their live journal and complain "Oh poor me. He's picking on me."

That person never checked the rest of Purrsia. Didn't do ANY research. Just started implying that Tug was a
person who would DO such a thing.

He's not.

Then when the sites were back on line, that posting was deleted. Duh.

Grrrr.

This is SO damned childish. This person is getting a name in fandom. They're cute. (Always a plus in fandom.)
They are a very good artist. (Always a plus as well. Especially if you're fast.) A good costumer, too. Adorable,
actually. I, personally, like this person. I would never, ever, have pegged them as being this childish. This…subtly
vindictive.

Tug has asked this person for the last six months to please move their site. He's been very good-natured
about it. Asking them via emails over and over to please move their site.

The emails have been ignored. Or maybe even lost in the ether that is the internet. Sure.

Well, I emailed them tonight. It's likely I won't get a response, either. But…I had to do it. Yep, stick my nose
in where it's not wanted. But…it was at a request. So, no problem.

I'll very likely lose a possible friendship here. And possible many others because this person has gotten a
pretty good following. But, shit. This needs to stop somewhere. If Tug is forced to just archive and delete their
site, again, it's possible this person may go around saying "boo hoo, look what he did." This is ridiculous.

Sometimes I just sit with my jaw hanging and the fact that people can't be adults. Can't communicate. If they
needed time, all they have to do is write him and ASK. "May I please have about six months extra time? I'm
moving, or I have school and it's taking up so much of my time, etc., etc." Tugrik is extremely reasonable and
he would have likely said, "no problem" But ignoring his emails and then implying he'd just delete their
site...that's just wrong.

I hate this passive aggressive shit.

Communication is the best way. It's SO looked down upon these days and yet it's the only way any kind of
relationship actually works. I've been with Ed for 17 years and Tanamin for 11. It's only worked because we
communicate.

Talking does not make you less of a person and yet somehow, our culture is being convinced of this.

End of rant

(Later in the day)

Woah. They answered Tug instead of me. (No surprise, but it would have been nice to have been
acknowledged.) They're letter was VERY mature. Very good. I'm both surprised and intensely pleased. In the
extreme. It's so rare a person will respond with such an attitude. They were very good natured, asked about
the possibility of paying for hosting--if that's the way Tug was choosing to go, or if not, they'd go ahead and
move the site.

I'm impressed.
