It’s silly, I know, but I’m proud of myself because I did something with my computer. We have a router on my
computer so that the rest of the house can enjoy internet cable. But I thought that something was going wrong
with it because we kept losing the connection and yet when I directly hooked my computer to the modem, voila,
I was on-line.

So, we went to buy another router. But idiot here saw something that said “five port” and grabbed it up - it was
in the router section. I got it home and realized it was just a hub. Rats. Out into the heat again. I decided to not
return the hub because this way, Ben could also enjoy the internet at more than a snail’s pace. (We have five
folks in the house. The five port hub was perfect.)

We picked up the proper router and got home and I spent the next 45 minutes under my desk among the
numerous electrical cables and power warts. I hooked it up all by myself! Now I know that likely sounds like
someone being proud that they screwed in a lightbulb to most folks, but remember, I’m a computer idiot. Really.

I hooked up the modem to the router which is hooked to the hub. Woo hoo! Then I put everyone on the hub.
Woo hoo! Everyone was online!

Wait.

Not so woo hoo. Why was I not getting a connection?! Okay, fiddle with the cable sequence. Nope. Okay, I’ll plug myself back into the router rather than the hub.

Voila. On line. But why? Why did I have to be directly hooked up to the router when everyone else is hooked up to the hub?
