I'm disappointed that I'm going to have to miss the FC picnic this year, as usual. Too much stuff going on for
Hobb's Grove. Just too much to do to let a day go. But I hope everyone else has fun! Take pictures!!!
There's a thingie going around the net about "Dust Off" the compressed air used to clean computer keyboards
and such…
Rant following. Please do not read if you're not up to rants though everyone knows my rants are pretty tame by
comparison to most folks rants.
The article is very interesting. Very sad as well. And though some think it's an urban myth, two of the urban
myth debunking sites have researched it and called it True.
Okay.
So, it's kind of a warning article for parents to keep more aware of their children's actions, and to talk to them
about it. I can understand this.
The story and it's confirmation are at http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/d/dustoff.htm
A woman posted the article on one of my newsgroups with an apology for being off topic. She received a few
"wow…it's true" responses. Fine and good.
And then she got this charming bit of bile late last night:
Normally I would ignore this kind of thing, and I'm sorry for perpetuating
this -bows to the mods- but this is really absurd.
Honestly, folks, think about this for a minute. The chemical in those cans
is not oxygen. It is not toxic in the way we traditionally think of
toxic--something that can poison your body. I can't speak for the ability of
it to reside in your lungs, though I imagine it would take a certain level
of *work* to keep it there on any sort of killing level. We have a tendency,
when not purposefully retaining something, to exhale or cough out air that
is no longer oxygenated.
When I was in high school, the girls would stand against the wall and plant
their palms firmly against their necks at the pulse point for several
seconds, producing a fainting sensation--a rush, caused by starving the
brain of oxygen. Inhaling almost any inert gas will produce the same effect.
I honestly don't understand the relevancy of this post. Yes, someone died in
ignorance. Yes, it is a tragedy. Yes, when abused any gas can be dangerous.
But then again, so can a plastic bag around the head. I would hope that,
while this story is awful, that it doesn't shock or surprise anyone.

This was one of the most heartless things I've heard anyone say in quite a while along with being completely
idiotic and uneducated. I'm thinking that she was one of those girls that gave themselves a rush by denying their brains oxygen enriched blood.
Is this the direction people are going these days? This cold detachment toward tragedies and even the possiblity
of such things? Are people truly that jaded?
This posting left me shaking in anger at such callousness. I suppose if this woman had any children, then maybe
it might be "relevant" to her life. If this is the attitude that the human race is headed toward, I'm going to start calling myself inhuman.
End Rant
And now I'm off to make tentacles…
