October 27 2005 (Thursday am)
It's been a pretty interesting run thus far. Most of the run has been as expected. Ups and down. Lots of ups
this year, though. Most folks coming through have done so to just have a good time.
Grover is a hit. He's made friends with many folks, even though he sneezes silly string up their noses and
into their screaming mouths. It's hilarious and almost every single person laughs rather than getting belligerent over the sudden mass of wet stringy stuff covering their chests or faces. It's great. I'll have to get a picture with his eyes and deeliebobbers all lit up. :)
Raggedy Anne is a hit. With the patrons and the actors alike. It makes me very happy to be part of this crew.
They're friendly, and they all work hard, doing their best to scare the patrons to the best of their ability. It's pretty cool.
It's the idiots that sometimes ruin a good night. Why do some people seem to feel it is their right to abuse the
actors just because they paid to be there? It's…weird. And disgusting to see people be obnoxious, abusive, profane and violently physical. What's with that? What makes it OK?
Such folks - when Tanamin is alerted to them - are quickly escorted off of the site, but the actors often don't
know when to call for help. They know that plain ol' idiocy cannot be complained about. Even folks who are obnoxious are allowed to continue on their way. Knowing what that line is, and when it's stepped over can be a confusing thing, especially for the new actors.
And BOY, did we get our share of idiots last night! Whew! And we only have more of it to look forward to in
the next four days.
Just four days. Can I make it? *smile*
The sad thing is that my Ed cannot.
Yesterday he had a migraine but still worked. Now, keep in mind, his migraines are usually debilitating. They
put him out of action for three days, in bed, hurling and in great pain.
We were able to get the migraine down to a dull roar.
Then the assholes hit.
I mean really REALLY BAD assholes. Striking out at the actors in Ed's area, being verbally abusive, getting
in the actors faces, and using lots of profanity. It took everything Ed had to not move on these monkeys. If he had, it would have been very bad.
But it cost him.
That migraine exploded in his head because of the sudden rise in blood pressure and his restraining his
anger. He almost blacked out. The pain was indescribable.
Ed's had three minor strokes in the past. Two of them in connection with his migraines.
He could not communicate for several minutes the pain was so intense over the top of his skull and down the
back.
And I didn't know.
He won't be going back tomorrow. Or for the rest of the run.
I, and he, won't take that chance. It's not that he can't handle the idiots. He has all this time. It's that he's got
the first migraine he's had in twelve years and from his description, it definitely caused some internal damage. While he's in the throws of the migraine, he's vulnerable. Vulnerable to internal damage from sudden blood pressure rises.
All we need is for him to get angry/upset again and it explode that area again. This time the damage could be
far worse, possibly causing a stroke.
No. I won't take that chance.
I should have made him stay home in the first place. But we didn't want to disappoint anyone.
At home, he's safe. He can sleep. And he can heal.
I'm a little scared for him.
