I don't have any complete tutorials made up yet, for making foot gear. I thought I'd post photos
of three different sets of hooves that Ed Kline has made for me and others, in the past. Just click on any of the thumbnails to go to a page with that image.
I have also taken some photos of his last hooves. He calls them his "all terrain hooves." It's not a
complete tutorial but it shows some of the vital sections done to construct them. I hope to add a rough walk-through "tutorial" with them soon. For them just click on the thumbnail to start and after that click on the photos to go to the "next" image. Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy the photos.
If you have any questions, just drop me a note. I'd be happy to answer.

K.C.--a play on word for "Car Keys"--was a technopath character from the same world where
Eeon originated. (Not the Red Shetland universe.) This was my first set of hooves. Ed and I participated in World Con in LA in, um, '82?, and we both won in the craftsman division. I'm sorry to say I have no photos of the costume itself. |

These hooves were my favorite and they were amazingly comfortable. They were originally
designed for the next incarnation of KC and were to be worn at the Atlanta, GA WorldCon. Unfortunately "murphy" got in the way and the make-up that one of Ed's friends picked up for me to apply to a new raw blow (mask) of KC was not the brand we'd asked for and I was in such a hurry, I didn't check. I just applied it and then put it into it's box to get ready for packing. When I came back the next morning to powder and pack it, it was a gooey mess. The makeup had reacted with the latex and the results were...well, let's say I was a tad upset.
In any case, Ed and I had been reading Jack Chalker's Well World series and we, on the fly,
decided to make my character Mavra Chang. (I know, when she was initially changed her hooves were not cloven. It's the best we could do. :) )
These were also the hooves that were made from Friendly Plastic. I think you know the story
to that one. If not, go to the last image. :P
You can see photos of me wearing them in the Other Costumes section.

Here are some images of a pair of hooves that were commissioned many years back. Ed did a trade
and the client, named Gary, was very happy. He'd always wanted a satyr costume and hooves were a vital part. Even so, he returned the hooves but did not want a refund or anything like that! Gary had worn them but found that his ankles were not strong enough for the very high stance required to wear them for any length of time. (They're also pretty heavy.) He tried wearing them a couple times and was happy with that. He decided that Ed might be able to sell them to someone who had stronger ankles! So, we got the hooves back and they went into storage, forgotten. I recently pulled them out, specifically to show them here. They require some repair due to sitting in storage for so many years. Mostly the feathering is coming off. I'll probably eventually repair them and then sell them either on eBay or Furbid. |
