Okay! The rest of this section is just filled with fiddly bits that have to do with the mask.
|
|
When you want to wear the mask, racoon your eyes with the slightly
darker make-up or the make up that is the same value. Set the make-up on your face with the Ben Nye Transluscent setting powder BEFORE putting the mask on. (In fact do anything to your eyes and such that you want before putting on the mask. It's just much easier. I put my contacts in, racoon my eyes, put false eyelashes on sometime, then do my highlighting eye make-up, then set the make up). Whoosh! Then I pull the mask on. It takes a bit of practice but it can be done without marring the eye make-up. You might want to practice putting the mask on and pulling it off, before ever painting it. |

Rules for the care and feeding of your mask.
Always clean the inside of the mask, EVERY time you take it off. This
will extend the life of your mask. One of Ed's Eeon masks has lasted about thirteen years. This is because he takes good care of it. To clean the inside of the mask, wipe it down gently with a cottonball or similar soft item saturated with 70% rubbing alcohol. This should kill a good portion of the bacteria that has been triggered to grow by sweat. After that has dried give it a light dusting of spray Lysol. Take these items to a con with you. You can often find little travel size cans of Lysol. If you end up forgetting your alcohol, pick up a little bottle of that gel stuff they sell everywhere now. Wipe the mask down with that. You should most definitely be able to find THAT in the giftshop of most hotels.
Never, EVER, put the mask into a warm dark place after wearing it. Clean
it, air it out, make darned sure it is DRY before packing it back away. It will end up rather on the smelly side if you do not. Think of trying to give someone a hug with a mask that smells of dirty socks! Heck, consider trying to walk around all day with that wonderful fragrance in your face!
Ed and I pack our costumes with cedar balls. You can find them in with
the mothballs at most stores. Even grocery stores. But drug stores should have them too. They help the costume to stay fresh smelling. We'd suggest packing the rest of the costume with them as well. It works wonders. |

Teeth: Ed makes all the teeth for our costumes. He uses a product called
Cernit. It's a porcelain type of sculpting medium. Similar to Sculpy but superior. It can be purchased from several places on-line for about 2.00 for a 2.3 oz bar. Really neat stuff. Used to make dolls. |

I'm sure I'll be adding things here as I think of them, so check back
every once in a while. |

There are all kinds of products you can use to remove make-up from your
own face but the two products that we've discovered work the best are either a good gentle (contact lens safe) eye make-up remover, or, believe it or not, diaper wipes. Yep. Cheap and effective. And very gentle to your skin if you have the sensitive kind, as I do. |
